Your privacy

Itihasa is a free, ad-free educational mission — not a product that lives off your attention or your data. This page explains, in plain words, exactly what is kept and what is not.

Your reading stays on your device

By default, everything you do here — where you are in the journey, what you've finished, the notes you write, your Recall (review) schedule, your comfort settings, and your recent glossary look-ups — is saved only in your own browser, on the device you're using. No account is needed to read, and children can read with no account at all.

An optional account, if you want it

If you'd like your progress to follow you across devices, you can create an optional account with just your email — no password, and no other personal details. We use a magic link (or a one-time code) to sign you in. With an account, your progress and notes sync through Supabase, protected by Row-Level Security so that only you can ever read or write your own data. Your email is the only personal information we hold, and we use it only to sign you in.

Nothing you write is ever made public

Your notes and reflections are private to you. Itihasa has no comments, no profiles, and no way for people to contact one another — there is no public space where your words could appear. If you gift a chapter to a friend, any short personal note you add travels privately inside that link and is shown only to whoever opens it; it is never published or indexed.

One honest note: your notes are stored as plain text — on your device, and in your account if you sign in. That keeps them yours and lets you export them freely, but it means they are not encrypted, so please don't put passwords or secrets in a note.

No tracking, no ads, ever

We do not run advertising, and we never sell or share your data. Right now there are no analytics at all — no third-party trackers, no advertising cookies, and nothing that profiles you. If we ever need to know whether the mission is reaching people, we will use only privacy-respecting, cookieless aggregate counts — plain visit totals with no profiles and nothing that identifies you — and we'll say so here first. This is education, freely given; you are never the product.

Export or delete your data, anytime

Your data is yours to take or to erase. From More, under your account controls, you can export everything you've saved as a file you keep, and you can delete your account and all of its data — sign-in, progress, notes, highlights, and Recall — which is removed completely. To clear the copy held on this device, you can also clear this site's data in your browser settings.

Found an error? Tell us

Getting the history right matters more to us than anything. If you spot a mistake — in the facts, the sourcing, or the framing — please use the “report an error” option on the More page, or write to us at errors@itihasa.example. We read every report.
